My experience in Sri Lanka

My journey through Sri Lanka began at one of its most iconic landmarks – the ancient rock fortress of Sigiriya. Rising dramatically from the surrounding plains, Sigiriya offers panoramic views of the lush landscape below. Climbing to the top and capturing the fortress bathed in golden light at sunrise was an unforgettable experience.
Heading south, I found myself on the golden beaches of Mirissa, where the sunsets paint the sky in vibrant colours. The sound of the waves and the warmth of the tropical air made for a perfect end to the day, and I captured some of my favourite shots as the sun dipped below the horizon.

Sri Lanka’s wildlife is as vibrant as its landscapes. One of my most memorable experiences was visiting the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, where I watched herds of elephants bathing and playing in the river. Capturing their interactions and the joy they exude was an incredible opportunity.

In the ancient city of Anuradhapura, I found myself surrounded by centuries of history. The towering stupas and sacred Bodhi tree offered a glimpse into Sri Lanka’s deep spiritual roots. As the morning light filtered through the trees, I was able to capture the timeless beauty of these ancient temples.

Back in Colombo, the bustling markets and vibrant streets offered a completely different energy. The sights and sounds of the city, from street vendors selling tropical fruits to the colourful textiles on display, provided endless photographic opportunities as I wandered through the lively capital.

One of the most iconic experiences in Sri Lanka is the scenic train journey from Kandy to Ella. The train winds through verdant hills, offering breathtaking views of waterfalls, tea plantations, and misty mountains. Hanging out of the train’s open doors, I captured the landscape rolling by, creating one of the most memorable shots of my trip.
In Ella, I visited the Nine Arches Bridge, a beautiful railway bridge nestled in the lush jungle. Watching the train cross the bridge, surrounded by greenery, was like stepping into a postcard. The bridge, with its colonial architecture, stands as a testament to Sri Lanka’s rich history.
A safari in Yala National Park was another unforgettable experience. The park is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including leopards, elephants, and sloth bears. Capturing a leopard lounging in the tree, its eyes watching the landscape below, was a moment that perfectly encapsulated the wild beauty of Sri Lanka.
